2012 Economic Outlook Seminar
In today’s competitive environment it is more important than ever for business leaders to understand the economy of South Dakota and to understand the events that drive the situation. To help business attain these insights, the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce and Industry is presenting the sixth annual Economic Outlook Seminar.
David Owen, President of the South Dakota Chamber of Commerce and Industry announces the date for this year's “South Dakota Economic Outlook Seminar.” The event will be held in Sioux Falls Tuesday, November 20, 8:30 am to 1:30 pm at the at Sioux Falls Convention Center.
The agenda features Dr. Ralph Brown, Economic Analysts and Associates, Vermillion, USD professor emeritus and chief advisor to the Governor’s Economic Advisory Council, speaking on South Dakota and local economic projections; Marilyn Yager, Alston & Bird LLP, Washington, DC, offering a beltway insider's perspective on post-election changes to the national political landscape; GOED Commissioner Pat Costello, discussing competing with other states and how a statewide office works with local development offices when the local communities see each other as competition. Responses will be offered by the following panelists: Jim Barringer, Aberdeen Development Corporation; Bryan Hisel, Mitchell Area Economic Development Corporation; and Slater Barr, Sioux Falls Development Foundation, Inc. The luncheon speaker will be Steve Willard, representing the American Petroleum Institute and speaking about the North Dakota oil boom.
Fred Slunecka, Chief Operating Officer, Avera Health and Founding Chairman of the Economic Outlook Seminar program, stated “In this time of economic uncertainty, providing quality speakers on important topics fits the South Dakota Chamber’s mission to serve its members, as well as the statewide business community.” Slunecka is also a past chair of the South Dakota Chamber Board of Directors.
